Following their withdrawal from St Valery in 1940 the Kent Yeomanry were issued with the 25-pdr Field Gun to replace their 18 pdr guns lost in France.
The 25-pdr was the standard British Army Field gun and was very popular and easy to use. It could be used not only in the classic artillery bombardment role but also – and frequently in the desert- used in an anti-tank role.
Both regiments, 97 Field and 143 Field, were equipped with it for the whole of the war.
