The Grocer

Marshall in 1998

In 1970, Marshall and Doris decided to give up the grocery business.  After periods of further education themselves, they moved to Harrogate in North Yorkshire, where Marshall became an Education Welfare Officer and Doris taught children with learning difficulties.

Here, they both contributed to the local community through a range of voluntary activities. They were keen members of the Old Tyme Dance Club, of which Marshall was Chairman.

After a return to Arromanches and Villers-Bocage in 2005, together with a first visit to his elder brother James’ grave at Billy-Berclau in France, Marshall died on 21 February 2007, followed by Doris on 7 April 2008.

Marshall’s medals and cap badges can be seen displayed in the Museum.
